How to make a Mirror Wall

The mirror wall is definitely the most popular feature at Our Gaff. It was my first viral video on TikTok and has since always attracted people to my page wondering how we did it.

The biggest thing I would say is don’t over think it.

You can do it on any size wall but I’d say you probably want to stick to a fairly small area, our wall is about 2.6m wide and 2.4m tall.

If you’re any good at CAD you could use that to measure out how many you will need, or you could use websites like floorplanner to plan it out. We tried doing it on paper but it gets quite confusing so in the end what we did was buy a bundle of the mirrors from Ikea, and then lay them along the floor to see how many we can fit in, leaving around 1” between each mirror. The same gap was left in the vertical orientation as well.

The mirrors come with double sided stickers which you can use to stick them to the wall.

The first thing you want to do is paint the wall black. We used a silk finish and I think it looks good as theres a slight shine from the wall between the mirrors, but its not too much. I do think matt paint would be totally fine too though.

Once the wall is painted and dried, and you’ve figured out your gaps, the next stage is starting to stick the mirrors to the wall. This is the stage that we fretted about for so long as we didn’t want it to turn out a mess. In the end Johns dad and his brother in law, Ryan, came and helped us. They used a laser level to get the positioning right of the first few mirrors, and then they used a metre stick (a very long ruler!) as they moved along the wall. Looking back I definitely think we over-thought the process and could have done it ourselves no problem. In the first day or so a few mirrors came off as they hadn’t been pressed on enough (be sure to do this!) and it was super easy to just stick them back on by eye. If I ever done this again I know it would be easy enough to do myself using a meter stick, making sure it was straight enough and then using the size on the stick while resting the mirror on it to get the mirrors into position. Even if the mirrors were ever so slightly off you wouldn’t notice. I have a video on my TikTok explaining all of this too if you need a visual. I’ll also add some links to the mirrors below.

Ikea Lots mirrors - 30x30mm - we used these for the majority of the mirrors

Ikea Lonsas mirrors - 30x21mm - we used these at the bottom as we didn’t have space for 30x30, its not perfect but like I said you really don’t notice that its not

B&Q silk black paint - not the exact brand we used but I’ve used b&q paint before and its decent

If there’s anything else you want to know or if you have any questions head over to the contact page and send me an email or you could DM me on insta! Also please tag me in any pics/tiktoks if you do the mirror wall I’d LOVE to see it!!
